Game 16
The Aylmer Flames Red squad made their way to our barn in Mount Brydges today for the 16th regular season game this season. Believe it or not we only have 4 more regular season games before the playoffs start! It's time to ramp it up and prepare for the post season by finishing strong and setting the tone for playoff action. Watsy gets the start today in net and Hoefy finishes....

In our pregame pep talk Coach Ryan spoke a little bit about the Aylmer Red team stats and told the kids that they have a high goals against record and they also have a high goals for record. We need to play solid defensively to limit the oppositions scoring opportunities and also get lots of shots on their net. Based on the stats, if we do this we should prevail. As it turns out, Coach Ryan was on the money!
We played a very solid defensive game today. Not very many scoring opportunities presented themselves in our end but when Aylmer managed to get through and take some shots, both of our goalies made the saves when needed and kept our opponent off the score board for the duration of the game. Congrats to Watsy and Hoefy for the solid performances today! Great job, keep it up.
In the first period we were pressing for the first goal from the opening face off. Just over 3 minutes had elapsed when Ethan Bond opened the scoring after a battle in front of the net, the assists go to Spencer Whitney and Spencer Emerick. As the boys skated off the ice they were laughing at the bounce off one of the Aylmer players. We told them it doesn't have to be pretty, they all count.
As the game progressed, we kept getting scoring opportunities but we were shut down by a very solid goaltender in the Aylmer net. I think this could have easily been a 4-5 goal lead for us but he held his ground very well and made many saves to keep it a 1 goal game. This is the part that kind of surprised me today, I was expecting weaker Aylmer goaltending based on the stats Coach Ryan spoke about before the game. This goes to show you, you never really know what to expect in a hockey game which makes the game so much more interesting in my opinion.
I spoke earlier of the solid defense today but I want to mention a bit about Spencer Emerick's game today. I thought he had one of the best offensive games he has ever played. I counted at least 3 times he rushed the puck and created scoring opportunities, not to mention his assist on the first goal. After his rushes he would hustle like mad to get back. Great game Spencer, your confidence, hard work and hustle deserves a big shout out today!Keep it up!!
Over all, another solid performance by everyone. Lets keep "the pedal to the medal" (as Nick Sheridan would say :-)
The playoffs are just around the corner. See everyone at the recently added practice on Tuesday. Rumour has it Coach Jamie and Trainer Pat are on the ice running it this time. A practice not to be missed!!!!
