Viana Dental March Break Tournament
The Golddiggers were on the road this weekend in the Cobourg area playing in the Baltimore Minor Hockey March break tournament. We played our first game of the 3 game tournament Friday night at 6:30 against the host Baltimore team. This is our last tournament of the season and our last shot at a tournament championship this season. The kids came out.....

flying!! I think every one of our forwards scored at least once in this goal riddled 12-1 win. This was a great way to set the tone for Saturday when we would face our 2nd opponent called the Brighton Blue Braves. The kids looked great their St Patrick's Day mustaches were primed and ready for action. Trainer Pat on the other hand was feeling a bit hungover today so I was a little sluggish after celebrating St Patrick's Day one day early by closing the hotel bar with Jamie and Ike on Friday night. Thankfully I was able to execute my duties as doorman without any significant issues. The team continued moving the puck very well and dominated once again with a 7-0 victory. I won't mention all the scorers but I remember Nick Sheridan celebrating his 7th goal of the season setting a new personal best for him this year. Great job Nick, keep it up!
The stage is set for our 3rd and final game for the gold medal earlier today at 5:00pm against the undefeated Clarington BlackHawks. This test is sure to be our toughest of the tournament as we have heard they have a player with former AAA experience in the lineup. Ben has the pipes for the tournament as Hoefy is away this week, in the first two games Ben looked like the MayTag repair man standing in net. This game would be different and we need a solid game from him. He did just that and played very well, this opponent was working hard and trying to draw first blood but no dice. It was late in the first period before we managed to score first. After this first goal we started moving a bit better and scored 3 more unanswered goals before our opponent scored with about 1 minute left to play make it 4-1. With the net empty, Sam Stewart managed to bury the open netter to give us the 5-1 victory and tournament championship.
Great job everyone, awesome tournament! Congratulations on the big win this weekend.
Finally we want to thank Viana Family Dental for generously sponsoring the tournament this weekend. Thanks for the awesome support!
Cheers :-)
