Game 12
Tonight the Goldiggers went prospecting for points in Strathroy at the Gemini Sportsplex. Our familiar foe was the Strathroy White squad who are doing well in our division, they recently handed Thamesford their first loss of the season and are considered one of the top contenders in our division. We are also considered a top contender so this promises to be a good battle! It's Game Day! Are you Ready!
If so,

Liam is still out of the lineup due to illness so we are running with 3 forward lines to 2 sets of defense today. Carson is back although not quite 100% yet, he is still getting stronger each day so it should be only another few days before he is back to normal.
This game would prove to be a tough battle by both teams for all 3 periods. Strathroy was first to score when a high shot found the net behind Ben at the 6:55 mark of the first period. It drives me crazy when the first shot goes in but Ben stood his ground well and made a number of good saves after this in his remaining time in goal for this game.
It wasn't until early in the 2nd period we answered back to tie the game at the 8:42 mark when Nick Sheridan tipped in a shot by AJ Duffy to even it up at 1 goal each.
Hoefy played the last half tonight and did a great job in net. He managed to make a number of great saves to keep Strathroy at 1 goal for the duration of the game. Great job Matt!
We tried hard to score but had trouble hitting the net and getting quality shots on goal. I'll give credit to the Strathroy defense for foiling our chances on many occasions. In our end, our defense matched this effort and played well to help keep Strathroy off the board. Spencer Emerick worked very hard in his new skates and had a fantastic game stopping the Strathroy shooters on several occasions. The Duffy brothers and Will Stewart rounded out our solid defense with many great plays which helped keep us in this contest. The game would end with a 1-1 tie.
On the bench during the game and again in the dressing room after the game, Coach Ryan mentioned the solid effort put forth by Braedan Viana tonight. He displayed a 100% effort every shift which contributed to the point we earned.
Something to work on, accuracy is one, we missed the net and too many scoring opportunities. I think shooting accuracy might be a focus at practice on Thursday. We played a good game against a strong opponent so overall this result is not bad. As Ryan said in the dressing room "not our best game ever, but not our worst either"
See everyone a practice on Thursday.
