Game 6
The first part of our season comes to a close tonight as we played our 6th game of the regular season. After this game, the teams are re-aligned into divisions based on the point standings after the first 6 games. I think it is safe to say the Golddiggers have secured a berth in the A Division for the remainder of the season with 11 out of a possible 12 points. Hang on to your hats folks.......

All the future games are sure to be tough battles against strong A division teams. The action is sure to be worth the price of admission as it was tonight in Strathroy.
We came out strong and played very well out of the gate. Everyone was working hard and Matthew "Hoefy" Hoefenagels played a very solid game and made some awesome saves to keep the puck out of our net for the first half of the game. Great job Matt! We were trading chances at both ends through the first period, I think we were outplaying Strathroy a bit but it wasn't until the 2nd period we started to put the puck in the net.
Ethan Bond opened the scoring with 8:42 on the clock in the 2nd period. The assists go to AJ Duffy and Logan Doxtator. Just over a minute later Will Stewart blasted one from the point and buried our 2nd goal assisted by Braedan Viana. We were playing very strong and had Strathroy back on their heals. Carson Vanderweg got a break and scored our 3rd unanswered goal of the 2nd frame unassisted. Before the end of the 2nd, both teams traded a few shots and we took a penalty or two. The score is 3-0 for the good guys going into the 3rd.
The 3rd period started out strong, it was a bit rough with a couple more calls but the "Loganator" Logan Doxtator scored after a very sweet drop pass by Carson. The adrenaline was flowing and the Loganator struck again only 14 seconds later with 6:18 left to play to give us a 5 goal lead assisted by Liam Peters Albert and Carson. It was at this point in the game where we had a bit of a brain fart and stopped skating, we thought we had it in the bag and decided to take it easy. Strathroy took advantage of our lolly-gagging and tried to sneak back into the game. They scored with 4:57 on the clock then again at 4:15 and yet again with 2:43 left to play. All of a sudden we are in a 2 goal contest......luckily we mustered enough gumption to keep Strathroy at 3 goals and bring home the 5-3 victory. The lesson to be learned here is obvious.....no need to give a lecture about playing the whole game.
Before closing we want to wish Zac Fisher a speedy recovery from his little accident at school. That sure is quite a fat lip you're sporting. Get well soon Zac we need you back in the lineup soon buddy!

Great job Cougars!
