Game 20
Aylmer was the destination today for our 20th game of regular season play. All of of our players were dressed and ready to go with some time to spare today. The coaches are looking for lots of hard work from everyone in preparation for the upcoming playoffs....

I guess it is interesting to watch these games from the sidelines and hear the different takes from other parents who watched the game. After the game, I was speaking to Karen about our play in the first and second period, I thought we played poorly without much effort and our feet weren't moving much. Aylmer was outplaying us and we were stuck in our zone quite a bit. Aylmer got on the scoreboard early after scoring just over 2 minutes into the first. True we had some opportunities but we went into the 2nd and then the 3rd period down 1-0. Karen does not agree with my assessment of our play in the first two periods, she thinks the kids played OK but just didn't score. Lets hear it folks, who do you think is right? Am I being too critical or is Karen being too soft on the kids.
Finally our team started to move their feet and play like they wanted to win in the 3rd period. We were hustling more and the puck was being passed around!!! Things started looking up (from my perspective) and I was feeling positive about the effort I was seeing out of our lines. We were spending more time in the offensive zone and putting pressure on their net. At last the monkey was lifted off our back after Cobyn Dias made a superman slide to reach and shoot a loose puck into the Aylmer net, assisted by Cole Abbey with 8:03 left to play in the game. Ben was playing solid and made some saves to keep Aylmer at 1 goal. With 5:13 left on the clock, Colton Cordeiro scored the go ahead goal from in front of the net, assisted by Jackson Emerick and Cole Abbey. Some say the refs missed an offside call just before this goal but I won't mention anything about that ;-). The play continued and Aylmer pulled their goalie with about a minute and a half left. We had a few hair raising moments deep in our zone before we managed to get the puck into their end. Cole Abbey made no mistake and buried the open net goal to seal the victory at 3-1 for the Great White Atoms.
I thought we played great in the 3rd. We saw some impressive passing plays by a different players, congrats to Cole Abbey for taking the $5 bucks for the nicest assist. Cole Abbey displayed some excellent discipline after some Aylmer players took runs at him with no retaliation which was great to watch! Very nice job in the 3rd everyone! It was nice to see 3 different players on the scoreboard, lets keep it going...GO COUGARS GO!

Coach Pat
P.S. Don't forget to let me know who you think is right about the 1st and 2nd period.
