Playoff Finals Game 3
The Great White Atoms finished up the March Break with a road game in Lucan tonight. Most of the kids are back from holidays however we are still missing Colton Cordeiro from the lineup. The series is tied 1 each going into this game, who's turn is it tonight to take home the W........

Unfortunately we had a tough loss after a hard fought battle. This game started out in our zone and Ben was called upon early to make some big saves to keep Lucan off the scoreboard. We were getting outplayed pretty bad in the first period and Lucan was pressing hard. Eventually they pick up a loose puck high in the slot and scored the first goal at the 6:20 mark of the first. We had a few chances but we really didn't get any quality chances to answer back before the end of the first.
The 2nd period was better as far as our skating and offensive play but we still couldn't solve the Lucan net-minder. Ben was playing very well in our end and the 2nd ended with no scoring so the game goes into the 3rd period with Lucan up 1-0.
I thought we really started skating even better and got the puck deep in their zone much more than the first two periods. This effort converted into an unassisted goal by Cole Abbey at the 13:32 mark to tie it up. The team kept up the pressure and about 4 minutes later Bryce Carruthers make a nice pass to Cole Abbey and he makes no mistake and gives us a 2-1 lead with 9:43 left on the clock. Lucan is not a team that will give up, they kept pressing every shift and their efforts payed off when the scored the equalizer at the 5:34 mark. The loose play in our zone cost us again at the 4:12 mark when Lucan scored to take the lead by one. Time was quickly becoming our enemy and Coach Mark pulled Ben with 1:23 on the clock. We had the puck deep in Lucan's zone and hopefully the extra attacker would make the difference. Unfortunately Lucan regained control and skated the puck into our zone and scored the open-netter with 1:03 left to play. The game ended with a 4-2 loss and the series is now at 4 points for Lucan and 2 for us. No worries, we will regroup and come out hard on Tuesday in our barn.
We all knew this was going to be a tough series, don't get discouraged. Rest up and be ready to dig deep and come out flying next game. If we win that game and we have a shot at the league Championship!!!
GO COUGARS GO!!!

Coach Pat
P.S. The 5 bucks goes to Bryce Carruthers tonight for the assist on Cole's 2nd goal. Sorry about the IOU Bryce, Karen stole all my cash tonight...I'll pay you on Tuesday :-)
