Game 19
The Great White Atom's faced the toughest team in the league tonight. Lucan comes into our barn undefeated in the regular season. We are also undefeated in regular season play just a game or so behind Lucan in the points race. How would things pan out tonight.......
We came out a bit flat in the first period. The kids were working hard but the scoring opportunities were few and far between. Lucan was spending a fair bit of time in our zone and they scored at the mid-way point of the first to take the lead.
We went into the 2nd period and the kids were playing a bit better but Lucan was doing a good job defending their zone and keeping our scoring chances to a minimum. Ben made some nice saves and the 2nd period ticked away without any scoring. We needed to get it going in the 3rd!
Both teams had chances and finally we got a break and Cole Abbey scored the equalizer with 5:26 left on the clock assisted by Jackson Emerick and Lynden Luis. This adrenaline rush created a few more great chances soon after but we just couldn't manage to put the puck in the net to take the lead. Lucan answered back about 2 minutes later after a high shot found the net. Down by one with 4:30 to play we tried hard and Coach mark pulled Ben with about a minute and a half left but it wasn't to be. We got called on a penalty and just couldn't muster enough offense to tie the game. Ben made a super save with about 1 second left to keep it 2-1 and the rest is history.
Now that the pressure of keeping the undefeated streak alive is gone, let's concentrate on having fun and playing hard. A loss every now and again is certainly nothing to be upset about, in fact it may help our team. Maybe this is a new beginning for our great team with just a few games left before playoffs. GO COUGARS GO!!
