Whew, A Nail Biter Finishes It
The Awesome Novice Whites had another fantastic, hard working weekend where the results finally matched how the kids have been playing all year.

Saturday, we strolled back into Point Edward up in the series 3 points to 1.  Our plan was to strike early to put them back on their heals but both teams were fighting hard.  Nobody was giving in.  Finally, at 5:29 of the second, Gavin McGahey-Smith does what he does best and scored another key goal to get the ball rolling.  And I mean rolling. We scored 6 more goals in the third and won the game 7-3.  The Cooper express led the way with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Also chipping in with goals were Nathan March, Alex Whitney, and Ethan Bond.  Lost in all of this was a very strong performance by our goalie Cameron Jones who kept them off the board until 6:00 minutes left in the game.  Our player of the game was Alex who's heroic defensive efforts kept us in the game until the offense kicked in.  NICE JOB ALEX.

As for tonight's game, I felt bad for all the kids and their families.  Who the heck wanted to play at 7 oclock at night on Family Day.  Well, I'll let you know there were 16 kids that came to play and play hard and well they did.  We opened the score early in the first on a nice break away goal by the Naterator, Nathan March.  This is something that we haven't been doing all series so it was nice to get ahead early.  Then Gavin and Cooper scored a couple of beauties to put us up 3-0 going into the second.  Nice feeling to have.  Can't wait for the game to end.  But, oh oh.  Here comes the Black Hawks.  They scored 3 quick goals in the second and had it all tied up going into the 3rd.  Nobody wanted to go back to Point Edward Thursday night so people were getting nervous.  Things were tight until 5:48 of the third when Spencer Whitney and Cooper worked hard in the corner to get the puck to a wide open Ethan Bond in front of the net.  Ethan took the pass on his backhand, flipped it to his forehand, and drilled it into the far corner of the net.  The fans went crazy.  Now we just had to hold on to finish off the series.  And hold we did.  Nice job Novice White.  YOU WERE ALL TOTALLY AWESOME.  Our player of the game was an easy one given that ETHAN BOND netted the game winner.  NICE JOB ETHAN.

All of the kids played fantastic this series and without all of their efforts, we wouldn't have been able to conquer the mighty Black Hawks.  Like when Josh Hurd was sitting in front of the net on several occasions to get some awesome chances, and when Katie Lunnie and Katie Amos were busy clearing the puck out of our end and keeping it in theirs, and when Trent Altiman thwarted many breakaways and cleared the puck around the boards to his wingers, and when Carson VenDerWeg would back check hard to help out his defense, and when Grant Walden worked so hard along the boards to dig the puck out to his linemates, and when Matty McGuire would skate hard to bring the puck out of our end and pass it up to his linemates, and when Reece Whiteye would single handedly stop 2 and 3 on 1's, and when Wesley Relou would help his partner clear the puck out of our end.  Hockey is all about doing the little things right all the time, and without everyone chipping in, we wouldn't have this success. Nice Job everyone.

Also, I just wanted to take this chance to thank all of the parents and all of the fans for their unwavering support of the Mighty Novice Whites so far.  You have no idea how great it feels hearing you cheer for us from the other side of the rink.  Let's get even louder next series.

Cheers, Coach Jamie.
