Game 1 Thriller
The Awesome Novice Cougars began their quest for the cup on Saturday morning in Komoka against the powerful Lambton Shores Predators.
Before the game, the kids were rocking to ACDC, Twisted Sister, and Stompin Tom Connors. They seemed to be pumped and ready to go to start the game but the Predators came out hungry. For the first 5 minutes of the period, the Cougars didn't leave our own end, even during a 2 minute power play, or should I say power outage. It seemed hopeless and then the Predators popped one in with 4:44 remaining in the first.
But, that seemed to spark the awesome Cougars, as Cooper Alcock got a sweet pass from Ethan Bond and raced down the ice to pop one in at a seemingly impossible angle. Katie Amos got the other assist on the goal. Then, with 40 seconds remaining in the first Spencer Whitney got the puck to Cooper, who then passed the puck to Ethan. Ethan couldn't quite get to the pass but raced after it into the corner and then just shot it to the net......and somehow it went in. The place went nuts and we were surprisingly out front 2-1.
Then........defence and great goaltending took over. The play went back and forth for the rest of the game and nobody could pop one in. Our defence was incredible, with Reece, Alex, Trent, Katie A, Katie L, and Wesley thwarting many rushes, but our goalie Cameron Jones was a brick wall. He stopped numerous break aways and shut the door many times when it seemed the Predators were destined to score. All the kids played amazing, but our player of the game was Cameron who bailed us out and preserved the win for us. Congratulations Cameron.
