Game 12
The Golddiggers were on the road today in Thamesford facing another tough bout with the formidable Thamesford Attack. This team plays hard and keeps coming at their opponents with a ton of power using all 5 players in the offensive zone. We came to play today and the result was an incredible game....this was one of my favorite games of the season so far.....

Ok we didn't win and that is just fine with me, we competed hard and that is what is important. The effort level was top notch by all and as a result our team played one of their best games so far this season in my opinion. We didn't give up and Ben played his heart out in net as he faced a barrage of shots over the course of the game. This is the stuff that keeps me coming back to the arena week after week, an amazing work ethic and team effort...we win no matter what if this happens!

We came out flying in the first period as we did in the game Saturday, only this time we were first to score at the 7:32 mark of the first period. The unassisted goal was scored by Carson Kechego.  Thamesford doesn't back off and answered back at 6:22 to tie it up. Thamesford just kept coming at us and Ben rose to the challenge and made a ton of saves to help keep them off the board for the rest of the first period.

Early in the 2nd period our team was playing hard and Blaine Powless simply out hustled and muscled his way through the strong Thamesford defense and made an amazing move around the goalie to slide the puck into the net giving us our 2nd goal unassisted at the 14:15 mark. I'm not sure what it is about Thamesford but the 2nd period is a strong point for them. They managed to keep the pressure on us as they did all game and score 3 more unanswered goals before the 2nd period would end giving them a 4-2 lead headed into the 3rd.

Undaunted by the lead Thamesford had, our Goldiggers kept pressing as hard as we could. It paid off at the 13:15 mark when Colton Wilson shot a puck at the net and Carson gave it a nudge to help it across the line to narrow the gap to one. In the usual Thamesford fashion, they managed to answer back with 3:28 left to play making it 5-3. Many teams would pack it in at this point, not the Goldiggers! Colton Cordeiro cashed in our 4th goal of the contest at 1:57 and putting us back in the contest and a chance to tie it in the last couple minutes. Unfortunately the Thamesford offense just kept pounding away and scored their 6th of the contest with 1:12 left to play. Coach Mark pulled Ben in the final minute trying to muster more offense but no more scoring would occur making the final score 6-4 Thamesford.

Even though we didn't leave with a win today, I feel we won this game in some respects because of the heart and hustle displayed by our kids. Take no shame in losing a well fought battle, keep your heads high and look forward to our tournament next weekend.

Great job everyone, GO COUGARS GO!
