St Marys Tournament Champs !!!

Our little cougars are champs again winning their 2nd and final tournament of the year. The kids played 5 games in a 9 hour span and what a testament to their strong will and determination to go undefeated in those 5 games and have the strength to come out in the final and win 5-2..................

It was an early morning start for the players, parents and fans of Novice Blue.

Game 1 saw the cougars come out hungry against a Belmont Team with a big bench of 15 players. We took an early lead and never looked back on route to an 11-1 win. The player of the game picked by the other team was Owen.

Game 2 was a tougher match against the home team St Marys Red wings and the cougars found themselves down 2-1 but stormed back to get 4 more and came out on top with a 5-2 win. You could see some fatigue kicking in playing back to back game but some gatoraide and snacks kept them playing hard. Kevin was voted by the other team as players of the game

Over the lunch that was provided by St Marys the kids got to do a puck toss for a 50/50 prize. It was fun to watch as over a hundred pucks flew on the ice all at once. We had a couple of close ones and Coach Pete knocked the one right in the middle but kept rolling. After and hour and half break we were ready for game 3

Pt Stanley was the match and the cougars came out fast & furious sending dozens of shots on the Pt Stanley keeper. We saw so much passing in that game and nice team work the Ref's asked if we were a select team and said we were the best passing Novice team he had seen all year. The cougars came out on top again 17-0 with all, kids getting on the gamesheet. Erika was voted player of the game by Pt Stanley

We played another back to back game vs the Sharks of St Marys and we looked tired and sluggish after our last 3 games. The Sharks had a great goalie and stoned us on several occasions jumping to a 2-1 lead which held to the third when we tied it up with 5 min left in the game. The tie sent us to the final against the same Sharks team. Jack was voted player of the game by the Sharks

The kids had a 45 minute break before the final and chilled to some tunes in the dressing room and played some mini sticks in the hall. The Sharks knew they had to come out hard and get that first bite and got a quick goal on Ava 40 seconds in the game. The cougars responded back for a tie after one and the scored stayed that way until late in the 2rd when the Sharks went ahead and the cougars responded back quickly to keep it tied after 2. We were down to the point in the tournament to see who still had gas in the tank after 14 periods of hockey that day. The cougars got a quick goal in the 3rd and added 2 more to wrap up the final with a 5-2 win . The Sharks voted Ava player of the game.

In the end all of the kids deserved player of the game awards by the Coaching staff and got a few treats. Defensive player of the tournament went to Hamish for his offensive and defensive skills in all 5 games. Offensive honors went to Luke who turned on his jets in the last 2 games doing some great back checking and popping in a few goals to keep up the title of the "garbage man" ! Good job guys.

It was a fun tournament for the kids and parents and 5 games kept us going all day and the kids slept well that night. Now, off to the playoffs against a tough Lambeth squad. Lets keep it going Cougars Blue !!!!
