December 19 Game
Christmas is just around the corner and we are playing our last game before Santa makes his annual trip. Today we play a tough Mount Brydges team and our work is cut out for us if we want the Atom Red undefeated streak to continue. This is the first game in quite some time we had our full roster in attendance so Coach Ryan had to decide who our 5th defenceman would be........
Carson Cordeiro got the important job as 5th D working with Will, Spence, Denny and Blake. We are expecting a tough battle and the Atom Gold squad didn't take long to get on the board when they scored after about 2 minutes of play. We were stinking out the house, our play was flat and we were getting beat to the puck and out hustled at every turn. Our opponent went up by 2 with 1:15 left on the clock in the first period.
I think Coach Ryan was starting to get concerned to say the least, our team looked like they were just a little too relaxed out there and our opponent was determined to hand us our first loss in a while. At some point about mid way through the second period we started to show some life and started taking the play to them like we can when we work hard. More play was in their end and we were generating more opportunities. Finally after 6 minutes of play in the 2nd we managed to get one back. Aiden Sinclair scored and the assist went to Tess Alcock, great job out there! Hopefully this will get our kids going and we can claw our way back into this tough game. Almost 2 minutes later with 2:03 left in the 2nd Jacob Molnar cashes the equalizer with the assists going to Dillon Lynch and Blake Scatcherd. Great job working the puck guys!!!! Dillon was a work horse out there and Blake was standing tall keeping the puck in their zone. This type of play in the offensive zone is certain to create scoring chances, keep it going!!!! The 2nd period ends all tied up at 2 each....hang on to your hats folks, here comes the 3rd!!!!
We were pumped and the momentum was on our side but we couldn't be too carefull with these guys, this game could go either way. With 11:48 left on the clock, Evan Thomas scores a huge goal with assists to Aiden and Tess. We needed to keep the play in their end and prevent from getting caught defensively. Atom Gold knew they needed one and pressed hard, our defence was doing a good job but they managed a couple great shots and Ben came through with some key saves to keep us out front by 1.Time was ticking by and Coach Jamie from Atom Gold pulled his goalie to get the extra attacker on with about a minute and a half left. They pressed hard but Denny managed to skate the puck out of our zone and shoot it from the neutral zone into the empty net. WOW....what a great game! We managed to dig deep, shake off the blues of the first half of the game and come back to extend our undefeated streak to 17 games. GREAT JOB EVERYONE!
