Playoff Round 2, Game 3
Both teams came out short players today with 9 skaters per side. How would the kids hold up to the extra ice time?? Too find out what happened.....

From the first drop of the puck both teams were determined to get the first goal. Novice White didn't take long to get in our zone and score their first goal only 21 seconds into the first shift. Our goalie Ben tried hard but somehow the first shot got past him. We'll blame the triple dose of antibiotics plus 1 tylenol and 1 advil taken 1 hour before game time on the doctor's orders. Everything was a bit foggy for Ben tonight but this was the smelling salts he needed to clear the fog and focus on the game. Meanwhile our first line was not about to let that goal go unanswered and replied back with a beauty goal by Cole Abbey only 11 seconds later. Here we are, 32 seconds into the game and the score is 1-1....great action folks! The first period continued with chances at both ends and with 1:31 left on the clock Novice White scored to go up by one.
The second period started out and we were determined to get back in it. We were getting some good chances and taking lots of shots the oppositions goaltender was making some great stops. Finally at the 6:09 mark of the 2nd we tied it up at 2 each with a great unassisted rush and bullet of a wrist shot by Quin Wardell. We continued pressing and with 53 seconds left in period 2 Cole Abbey scored his 2nd of the game to put us up by one going into the 3rd.
We couldn't lay back and I felt we need to keep pressing for more in the 3rd. I believe the best defense is a good offense when you're only up by one. That is what our kids did and Quin struck again with another cannon of a shot with 4:16 left to play. Ok we had a bit of breathing room....but only a bit! Things can change fast in Novice hockey so we had to be careful and not let things slip away. We played hard and Novice White was pressing hard as well. With 1:45 left they managed to score after a scramble in front of our net. We now had a one goal lead and we needed to keep the play in their end. At this point, the opponents goalie had some sort of equipment problem which caused a delay and the curfew buzzer sounded to end the game. We came away with our 2nd victory against this team in as many games. Congratulations to our Heart & Hustle Award winner tonight, Cole Haywood was a real work horse out there tonight. Keep up the great efforts Cole! Great job!
Be ready to play hard Saturday!!! We have the opponent up against the wall and it won't be easy but I know we can do it!!!! GO RED GO!
