North Middlesex Tourney- Game 1
The Novice Red machine met again tonight for our 1st game in the North Middlesex March Break Tournament in Parkhill. We were paired up with a strong opponent from Lambton Shores.......when they skated on the ice at the beginning of the game we thought they had a mom dressed and playing goalie....wow, that goalie was a huge Novice kid!......

We had Ben in goal tonight and our AP player Mason Lange was called up to help out since we were a little short. Our native players are playing in the Toronto "Little NHL" tournament this week.
We came out flying and caught our opponent in the first period when Cole Abbey scored twice on the same shift with two unassisted goals scored only 7 seconds apart. The remainder of the first saw great end to end action and our part-time goalie Ben Watson was making some great saves to keep us in the lead.
Period two started out pretty much the way the first ended. Lambton Shores was playing a bit better and pressing hard, they scored their first goal after a scramble in front of our net. The game continued and we just couldn't hit the net. I counted at least 6 good opportunities lost because the shots went wide and we failed to zero in on some rebounds which helped to keep us off the score board. Lambton Shores scored with 28 seconds left on the clock in the 2nd tying the game.
We had our back against the ropes and the momentum was in their corner going into the 3rd. We needed to get more pucks to their net and do a better job picking up the rebounds. We tried hard and the time ticked down, Ben was playing very solid considering his part-time role in our net. The 3rd period time slipped away and both teams had to settle for a tie game to open the tournament.
Congratulations to our Heart & Hustle Award winner, Cole Hampson! You played a great game tonight Cole, keep working hard and your turn on the scoreboard will come.
If I remember correctly, the Saginaw tournament started off with a 2-2 tie in game 1. We are not out of it and game 2 is bright and early tomorrow morning! Get to bed and be ready to play hard! Great job everyone!
