Playoff Round 2, Game 2
It's the playoffs folks! Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride!!!! The Novice Red train has just got warmed up in this series against a strong opponent. We are battle hardened and ready to go the distance with these guys if that is what it is going to take to win the Novice B division Championship.....
We had our full roster here for this game before the March Break and I must say, each and every player gave it their best effort tonight! The first period started out with the majority of play in our end. We were a little flat out of the gate and the Novice White crew managed to get the first goal about half way through the first. The first period ended 1-0 for the bad guys.
Early in the 2nd period Quin found some open ice and managed to pull off one of his trademark rushes to tie the game after 25 seconds of play in the 2nd. The 2nd period saw great chances at both ends. Diaz was standing tall in net and making some key saves to keep us in it. With 2:51 left on the clock Maddy Graham hit the jackpot with a beautiful goal after digging out a loose puck and burying it to put us up by one. I have never seen such a big smile from anyone after scoring. Great job Maddy!!! Your second goal of the year came at a really great time :-). The 2nd period ended with a 2-1 lead for the good guys.
Period 3 was sure to be a barn burner and it was! Novice White have a great group of competitors and they were not about to give up. With 7:19 left to play the opponent managed to sneak one past Diaz and tie the game at 2 each. The intensity was high and both teams wanted the win. Everyone was playing hard and both teams were taking a few penalties. The game was a bit more aggressive than a regular season game but I think that is to be expected when emotions are running high and both teams want to win a championship series. I thought the refs did a good job calling the penalties in this game.
It's all tied up with 7:19 to go.....we need this win to stay close in the series! All the kids are pumped and the energy level is high on the bench and in the stands. We could hear the parents screaming like crazy for both sides! This is what it is all about folks! Great action, lots of fun and an even battle! With 1:42 left on the clock Quin Wardell scored his 2nd of the game to put us up by one. We managed to run the last bit of time off the clock and come home with the 3-2 victory to even the series at 2 points each.
Congrats to Maddy Graham, our Heart & Hustle Award winner tonight, great job Maddy!!! Keep up the hard work....I hear your mom and dad are going to buy you a pony for scoring tonight. Is that true :-)
