Caledonia Champions!!
Congratulations to the PeeWee AE team for an exciting weekend at Caledonia.

The peewee AE team headed to Caledonia for the Challenge Cup over the weekend.

They were met by a Collingwood team who started off slow but gained momentum as the game went on. The Cougars got a 3-0 lead but slowly saw it start to get eaten away as the Collingwood team would not go away and netted 2 goals before the game was over. It was a lesson to be learned. Never count a team out until the final buzzer.

Next the team faced a team from Tavistock and Lincoln. Both teams skated very well against our team but would eventually meet up with our goalie who shut them both out. The Cougars won both games 7-0.

With our round robin play, the Cougars sat 1st on our pool and would face the 2nd place team in the other pool, Hespeler. It was an awesome game. Both teams went back and fourth through the first period but could not score. Eventually the Cougars started to wear on the Hespeller team and they netted 2 goals and saw our goalie back stop us to a 2-0 win. Putting us into the finals.

In the finals. The Cougars faced the home town team Caledonia. With their fans packing the stands and our Cougars fans supporting us even louder. The game was leading up to be a great one.

They had an opening ceremony in dedication to a coach Rob Richards who had coached the peewee AE team in Caledonia a year or two before. He had passed away after a battle with cancer so they dedicated this tournament to him. The speeches were great and it made you realize how lucky we were all to be sitting down getting ready to watch this great game of hockey. And both teams did not let us down.

Both teams went end to end for the first period with an unsettled 0-0 score. In the second period the Cougars finally said enough is enough and started to assert the strength and speed on the Caledonia team. With constant waves coming at you, the goals had to come. And they did. After scoring 2 goals in the second the Cougars had a lead that they would not give up.

The Cougars carried the lead into the third period and held off the Caledonia late period charge to the 2-0 victory. It was a very exciting game for all and the kids played great!

The relentless pursuit of the puck by forwards Cain, Darius, Ethan, Matson, Eric, Connor, Matthew, Nick and Tyler. They wore the other teams down and did the damage by putting the puck in the net.

Our defensive wall could not be broke all weekend. Dan, Judson, Allie, Connor and Michael blocked shots, cleared the net and kept all shots to the outside.

Who would have thought a team like this would get 4 straight shutouts. But we did. With Shaun coming up with some big saves at crucial moments in the game. He would not be denied.

You were like a wolf pack this weekend. You identified the other teams weaknesses and then went in for the kill. Just awesome.

We have successfully completed the first step to our goal.

The coaching staff of Shaun, Colin, Jason, Jarod and all the Cougar parents would like to congratulate you all for a successful weekend and a great time. You made us all proud!!
Great job boys!

Thanks

JM
