Battle in Blenheim
The scoreboard was not kind to the Novice Blues this weekend in Blenheim, but we all know, the scoreboard does not tell the whole story.

On Friday evening, we played the Oakville Penguins, who were more like the Pittsburgh Penguins than a local league Novice team.  Our kids had zero chance against this team, but they stuck to what they know, which is working hard and playing their positions.  Our goalie, Matt Koprowski, faced 51 shots and stood on his head the whole way. He received many compliments from the other team and was the games second star.  CONGRATS MATTY!!! On the scoresheet, Gavin got the lone goal on assists from Ethan Bond and Sammy.

I also gave out a Cougar of the Game award which went to Brady Dawson, who played very well defensively and went on an exciting rush up the ice.  CONGRATULATIONS BRADY!!!

On Saturday, we play the Mooretown Flags.  I already feared that they would be a very tough and talented team and I wasn't wrong.  Again, our kids kept their head high and just kept digging away.  At the end of the game, we came up a bit short, but we got many compliments from Mooretown's parents and coaches on how well we played our positions.  They told us we were the best positional team they have seen all year.  That's something eh!!!!  On the scoresheet, Gavin got the loan goal.

As for the 3 stars of the game, Gavin McGahey-Smith received one of the stars for his stellar defensive play.  CONGRATS GAVIN!!!!  And the Cougar of the game went to KATIE LUNNIE who's defensive positional play is now a work of art and her digging is relentless!!!!  CONGRATULATIONS KATIE!!!

Now for Sunday, we strolled in for a game against the Oak Ridge Kings.  They came out flying and put us behind the eight ball early by scoring 2 quick goals, and then another in the third.  But, the tenacious Novice Blue squad never gave up hope.  Then Gavin scored with about 6 minutes left to crawl within 2 goals at 3 to 1. We then pulled the goalie and Gavin scored again to make it 3-2.  Then the Kings scored one 8 seconds later to make it 4-2.  Then Jack Harding flew down and made it 4-3  with a minute and half left with goalie pulled again.  We were able to get the goalie out of the net again, but we just weren't able to tie it up.  We had some chances but they closed the door on us.  Very exciting game and again, the kid played great inspiring hockey.

JACK HARDING received the 2nd star of the game for his great digging and exciting rushes!!! CONGRATULATIONS JACK!!!!

And our Cougar of the Game award went to KATIE AMOS who played her position to perfection and was instrumental in getting the puck out of our end time and time again.  NICE JOB KATIE!!!

It was definitely a tough weekend for the kids score wise, but they laughed and giggled and danced and had a blast.  Can't wait for out next tourney!!!!!
