General Rules

  1. This tournament is sanctioned by the OMHA and follows OMHA tournament rules and regulations.

  2. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games.

  3. Teams must be ready to play 20 minutes before their scheduled game time. Coaches will be notified by tournament staff of any schedule changes.

  4. The tournament schedule is final.

  5. Teams unable to play at their scheduled time will forfeit the game, with a final score recorded as 3-0. These teams will lose eligibility for any finals.

Game Structure

  1. Warm-Up: A 3-minute warm-up will be provided before puck drop.

  2. Run Time

    • In the 3rd period, if a team is leading by more than 5 goals, the game will switch to running time. Running time will continue until the goal differential is reduced to 3 or less. Penalties will still follow the standard timing (e.g., a 2-minute penalty will remain 2 minutes). 

  3. Round Robin (Preliminary Games)

    • Game Length – 10-10-12

    • Games tied at the end of regulation time will be declared a tie

  4. Quarter-Finals:

    • Game Length – 10-10-12

    • Prior to quarter-final games, participating teams will provide a list of 8 players who will participate in a possible shootout.

    • For divisions with 7 teams, the 1st place team after the round-robin games will advance directly to the semi-finals; the other 6 teams will play in quarter-final matchups.

    • For divisions with 9 teams, a Wild Card elimination round will occur before the quarter-final matchups.

  5. Wild Card Game (for 9-Team Divisions):

    • Game Length – 10-10-12

    • Prior to wild card games, participating teams will provide a list of 8 players who will participate in a possible shootout.

    • In divisions with 9 teams, the teams seeded 8th and 9th from the round robin games will compete in a Play-In Game to determine who advances to the quarter-finals.

    • The winner of the Play-In Game will advance to the quarter-finals to face the #1 seed from the round robin.

  6. Semi-Final and Final Games:

    • Game Length – 10-10-15

    • Prior to semi-final and final games, participating teams will provide a list of 8 players who will participate in a possible shootout.

    • All semi-final and final games follow the standard tournament structure and the elimination process

  7. Overtime (for elimination games only):

    • If an elimination game is tied at the end of regulation, the game will proceed to a 5-minute, 5-on-5 sudden victory overtime

    • Teams will not change ends for the overtime period

  8. Shootout Procedure (for elimination games only): 

    • If a game is still tied after overtime, the winner will be determined by a shootout

    • If a shootout is required and time permits, teams will take turns shooting consecutively. If time does not allow for consecutive shots, the shootout will proceed with both teams shooting simultaneously.

    • Teams must select 8 players before the game begins and submit their names to the timebox, either on the gamesheet or on a separate piece of paper.

    • The order in which a team's shooters will go may be determined by their coach at the time of the shootout.

    • 3 vs. 3 Shootout

      1. The home team will indicate if they will shoot first or second

      2. Three shooters from the lists provided prior to the game will compete in the 3 vs. 3 shootout. If one team scores more goals than the other team in this shootout phase, they are the winners.

    • Sudden Victory Shootout: If still tied after three shooters, a 1 shooter vs. 1 shooter, sudden victory will take place. The remaining 5 shooters from the lists will compete in the sudden victory phase. 

      1. No player can shoot twice until all 8 players from the shootout list have taken a shot.

      2. Once all 8 players have taken a shot, there is no limit on the number of times the player(s) may shoot for their team.

Standings and Points

  • Round Robin Points:

    • Win: 2 points

    • Tie: 1 point

    • Loss: 0 points 

Tie-Breaker Rules

Two-Team Tie - If two teams are tied in points, the following criteria applies:

  1. Most wins based on 3 round robin games.

  2. Winner of the head-to-head game (if applicable).

  3. If there was no head-to-head game, the tie will be decided by:

  4. Best goals-for percentage: (Goals For) / (Goals For + Goals Against).

  5. Fewest goals allowed.

  6. Quickest time to score the first goal of the tournament.

  7. Fewest penalty minutes in round-robin games.


Three or More Teams Tied - For ties involving three or more teams, the following criteria will apply:

  1. Most wins based on 3 round robin games.
  2. Most wins in games among tied teams (if all tied teams played each other).
  3. Best goals-for percentage: (Goals For) / (Goals For + Goals Against)
  4. Fewest goals allowed.
  5. Quickest time to score the first goal of the tournament.
  6. Fewest penalty minutes in round-robin games.

Timeouts:

  • Each team will be permitted one timeout per game, available only during the semi-final and final games.

Jersey Colours

  • Home Team: The home team will wear light-coloured jerseys.

  • Visitor Team: The visiting team will wear dark-coloured jerseys.

Eligibility and Player Rules

  • No player or team official may participate without an approved certificate from their governing body.

  • Teams must provide a written travel permit from their governing association.

  • No roster additions are permitted after initial registration, prior to the first game.

  • Affiliated players are allowed but must be among the maximum 19 players listed on the official roster.

  • Players must adhere to their local association's equipment regulations. 

Dressing Room and Conduct

  • Teams are responsible for any damages to facilities, which will be invoiced to their respective associations.

Suspensions

Players receiving a Major Fighting penalty are disqualified from the tournament. Suspensions resulting from penalties assessed during the tournament may be carried over to the regular season, depending on the nature of the infraction, and must be served in accordance with their governing body's rules and regulations.
