Hello! My name is Evan Lutz, and I am thrilled to be the head coach of the Mount Brydges Cougars U11B hockey team for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. Below, I have included some information about myself, my coaching philosophy, and the evaluations and tryout process. Thank you for your interest in the U11B Cougars hockey team!
I have been playing hockey since I was 7 years old and have been involved with various teams within the Cougars organization as on-ice helper, trainer and assistant coach since 2019. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences to date and am honored to have been given the opportunity to coach the U11B team for the upcoming season!
My coaching philosophy is focused on developing each player to their full potential both on and off the ice in a fun, positive and encouraging environment. Some of the core values I coach by are as follows:
Attitude: bring a positive and open attitude to all games and practices, and have a willingness to listen and learn at all times.
Effort: give 100% effort on and off the ice, and encourage your teammates to do the same.
Respect: Respect all coaches, players, opponents, officials and parents always.
The foundation of learning for this team will focus on individual skill development, as well as a very strong emphasis on being positionally strong in both the offensive and defensive zones as a team. Hockey is a team game, and it is my intention to provide every player with the opportunity to contribute to the team's success both on and off the ice. Learning is at the core of my coaching, and I strongly believe that the lessons taught on the ice should be transferrable to each player's success away from the rink as well. I strive to maintain a fun, positive atmosphere on the ice and in the dressing room, ensuring that the players get the absolute most of out the season and have a fun, memorable time along the way!
This year's tryout schedule has been posted on the main Mount Brydges Cougars calendar, with the first ice time scheduled for May 10th. I will be looking for players who have a strong work ethic, demonstrate a willingness to listen and learn, show a level of compete both with and without the puck, have a high hockey IQ and are coachable, positive teammates. The players will be evaluated by a panel of non-parent evaluators to ensure a fair and objective measurement of all players.
Throughout the season, players and families should expect to commit to 2-4 team activities per week (practices, games, etc.). With this being a competitive level of hockey, this could increase at times as well. In addition, we will likely compete in 3-4 tournaments, 1-2 of which will be out of town. The final details will be shared once the team has been selected.
