Welcome to Mt. Brydges Cougars U11A Hockey!
My name is Jerry Leyten, and I am excited to be back with the 2015 age group coaching the U11A team for the upcoming hockey season. With the recent changes announced by the OHF for the upcoming season, I would like to welcome both new and returning players to our tryouts.

My coaching philosophy for the season is to create a positive environment where these young athletes can thrive on and off the ice. I am dedicated to teaching the fundamental skills of hockey while also emphasizing the importance of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. Success isn’t just about wins but the growth of each player as an individual and team member. My goal is to help every athlete develop their skills and achieve their full potential. I will place an emphasis on creating well-rounded players who are prepared to excel in all facets of the game.

Participating in a sport at a competitive level requires dedication and commitment from both players and their families. Regular attendance is required for all team events. This includes practices (minimum 2 per week), games (1-2 per week), tournaments (minimum 4) and other team building activities. As the coach of this team, I am fully dedicated to the development and progress of these young athletes. I expect them to demonstrate the same level of commitment by arriving prepared to work diligently and give their utmost effort. This commitment not only enhances their hockey skills but also teaches valuable life lessons about perseverance, time management, and goal setting.

Our team will once again be part of the Shamrock Hockey League this season. We will play against Ausable Valley, Elgin Thames, St. Mary’s and Strathroy. There will also be an interlock with the Southern Counties Hockey League which consists of teams from Brant, Delhi-Norwich, New Hamburg, Norfolk and South Oxford. New this year, we will also play interlock games with the Alliance Hockey League.

Upcoming Evaluations:

Evaluations begin on Saturday May 3rd at the Komoka Wellness Centre. Players will be divided into two groups. An email will be sent out no later than 5:00pm on Friday May 2nd letting players and parents know which group they are required to attend. If you do not receive an email, please reach out to me via the contact information below.

Saturday May 3rd Evaluations:

Group 1: 2:15pm - 3:15pm (Molson Pad)

Group 2: 3:15pm – 4:15pm (Molson Pad)

Please ensure that you sign in 30 minutes prior to the skate. Players will receive a pinnie with an assigned number on it. As noted in the M.B.D.A.A tryout policy, all registered players are guaranteed a minimum of one tryout skate. Please note that players will be released after the first tryout. A list of players moving on in the tryout process will be posted no later than 9:00pm on Saturday May 3rd.

I would like to wish everyone all the best with the upcoming try-outs. Remember that success comes to those who work hard and give it their all. Push yourself, stay focused, and embrace every opportunity to learn, grow and improve. Good luck to each of you!

Go Cougars!
