MIDGET C GIRLS CAPTURE SILVER!
The Midget C girls team travelled to Mitchell this past weekend for their first tournament of the year. The team had only played 4 league games in which they were outscored 29-2. Funny thing was they were getting better and also getting to know each other with 7 new players on the team. Well our first game
was against a strong Kent team that had beat us in 2 exhibition games. We started off pretty good but could not hold them back and lost 7-1. Strong efforts by all especially our new players Sydney, Kristen and Montana. Next up was Grand River and after a slow start we battled hard to a narrow 5-4 loss. Gina led the way with 3 goals with great support from Jess, Kelli and Alyson and solid games from Rachel and Sarah Wuytenberg. Third game was crucial as we had a small chance of advancing but we had to lower our goals against and hope other games finished in our favour. Well we defeated North Halton 3-0 with our best game of the year and outstanding goaltending from Becky. Sara Hill played a big part in our strong game as well as our newly converted D Ashley.
Well we advanced to the final only to face Kent again. The plan was simple…work hard defensively to prevent scoring chances and try to create some chances at the other end. the game was scoreless after 2 periods and we battled on with only 10 skaters including Mikayla playing through an injury. Kent squeaked a late goal in and we hit the crossbar with our goalie pulled and came up a bit short. Becky was again spectacular and Morgan Powell lead the team with her strong play up front.
What an amazing effort by all and such an improvement over 3 short days.
