Reminder to our Cougar Family: Respect the Officials
As we enter the playoff season, we want to take a moment to remind everyone in our Mount Brydges Cougars community about the importance of respect for our game officials.
Playoff hockey is exciting and competitive. Emotions can run high and games can be intense. However, it is essential that we all remember the role that referees play in our game and the environment we want to create for everyone involved in minor hockey.
Referees are human. They are making split-second decisions in a fast-moving game, and like our players, many of them are still learning and developing their skills. Many of our officials are also young members of the hockey community who are gaining valuable experience and confidence through officiating.
Disagreeing with a call is a normal part of sport, but disrespectful behaviour toward officials is not acceptable. Harassment, intimidation, threats, or abusive language directed at referees has no place in our rinks.
We ask all parents, players, and spectators to remember the values that guide our association and the standards set by the OHF, OMHA, and the Mount Brydges Cougars.
Please help us create a positive and safe environment by:
• Showing respect to referees, players, coaches, and opposing teams
• Refraining from yelling at or confronting officials
• Allowing coaches to address any game-related questions respectfully through the proper channels
• Modeling positive behaviour for the young athletes watching from the ice and the stands
Officials are an essential part of our game, and they deserve to feel safe and respected at the rink before, during, and after every game.
Thank you for your continued support in helping make our arenas a positive place for everyone to enjoy the game of hockey.
Go Cougars!
