Welcome to Tryout Season!
As we gear up for another exciting hockey season, we want to provide families with all the important details about our upcoming Mount Brydges Cougars Tryouts. Below, you’ll find information on schedules, costs, preparation tips, and what to expect from our coaching staff during this process.

Tryout Schedule

Tryouts will begin April 12th for our U9MD players, May 3rd for our U10-U13 players and May 5th for U14-U18 players.  Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled ice time to check in and get ready.

Registering for Tryouts

Registration is now open and the link to Mount Brydges Tryouts can be found below, as well as in the Tryouts Tab on the main webpage.

New this year

*Players who have been selected for the team will get an email sent to the email address that you registered with for tryouts.  You will be required to fill out that link to confirm your spot on the team.  This process could start after the first tryout.  Those continuing on in the tryout process will need to check the website for further instructions from the coach. 
**Players wishing to play ONLY B level hockey do not have to tryout for A level hockey, simply register for B and attend those tryouts.  Your player will not be allowed on the ice for the A tryouts unless they are registered for A.

Final team selections will be announced on the team website page.


Preparing Your Player for Tryouts

Tryouts can be a stressful but exciting time for young athletes. Here are some ways to help your player feel ready and confident:

βœ”οΈ Get Plenty of Rest – A well-rested body and mind perform better on the ice.
βœ”οΈ Hydrate & Eat Well – Fueling properly before tryouts is essential for energy and focus.
βœ”οΈ Sharpen Skates & Check Equipment – Ensure skates are sharpened, gear fits properly, and sticks are game-ready.
βœ”οΈ Stay Positive – Encourage effort, hard work, and a positive attitude. Coaches notice players who hustle and have great team spirit!
βœ”οΈ Skate Before Tryouts – If possible, get on the ice for extra sessions to shake off the rust.


What to Expect from Our Coaches

Our coaching staff is dedicated to fair, transparent, and professional evaluations throughout the tryout process. Here’s what you can expect:

πŸ’ Objective Player Assessments – Coaches evaluate skating, puck skills, game sense, effort, and teamwork.
πŸ’ Multiple Evaluators – Players will have several eyes on them to be able to showcase their talent and abilities, our evaluators bring a plethora of hockey knowledge to the tryouts and are committed to supporting each coach in selecting the players that will complement the goals set out by each individual coach.  
πŸ’ Clear Communication – Updates on cuts and next steps will be communicated in a timely manner.
πŸ’ Encouragement & Development – While tryouts are competitive, our goal is to support every player’s growth in hockey.

We understand that tryouts can be an emotional time for players and families. Our coaches and evaluators are here to create a positive and respectful experience for all athletes.


Final Notes

  • The $100 tryout fee is non-refundable, even if a player withdraws or does not make a team.

  • The cost to tryout for both A and B is $100, if you choose to tryout for only B, the cost is still $100

  • Players must wear full hockey gear, including mouth guards.

  • U14 players must have the Checking Clinic complete prior to stepping on the ice at tryouts

  • We encourage all parents and players to review our Code of Conduct to ensure a respectful environment.
