TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS

MBDAA tournaments are sanctioned by the OMHA and governed by the OMHA tournament rules and regulations.

All teams are guaranteed 3 games.

All teams must be prepared to play 20 minutes before scheduled game time. Tournament staff will make coaches aware of any time changes.

The schedule as drawn is final.

Any team that cannot fulfill our tournament schedule – inability to play at their scheduled time will automatically forfeit their game and all rights to participate in any final. Final score 3-0.

 

All teams will be given a 3-minute warmup prior to puck drop. Round robin games are 10-10-12 for LL and 10-10-15 for A and AE divisions. No overtime in the round robin games. If a team is leading by 5 or more goals in the third period, time will remain running (preliminary round only). If the goal differential changes to under 5 goals, stop time will resume. Penalties will remain two minutes in length during running time.

Only coaches can speak to tournament officials about disputes.

All referee decisions are final.

 

Preliminary Round Points

A team’s standings in the preliminary round will be determined by total points accumulated. 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.

SEEDING

Divisions with 8 Teams - Teams will be divided into 2 pools, teams will play 3 Round Robin games. Top 2 teams from pool A & B will advance to semifinals, winners of semifinals move on to finals.

Division with 6 Teams - Teams will be placed into 1 pool, teams will play 3 Round Robin games. Top 4 teams will advance to the semifinals, winners of semifinals move on the finals


SEMIFINAL AND FINAL GAMES

 

For all semifinal and final games

- 1 - 30 second time out will be permitted in regulation or overtime.

- All semifinal and final games will be stop time, unless there is a five-goal difference in the third period, at which time the clock will not be stopped for the balance of the game.  Penalties that are assessed in run time will be the same as regular time (ie. 2 min will be 2 min in run time, 4 min penalty will be 4 min in run time).

- Elimination games will be 10-10-15 stop time periods.

- 5 shooters to be named before the game on the game sheet (listed as S1, S2, S3, S4, S5) for the shootout, if necessary.

- The home team decides before the game on the game sheet if they are going to shoot first or last in the shootout, if necessary.

- For all semifinal and final games, if the game is still tied after regulation the teams do not change ends for overtime or for the shootout.

- Penalties incurred at the end of regulation will carry over into overtime and the shootout, if necessary.

- In the event of a tie at the end of regulation, teams will play 1 10-minute sudden victory overtime period consisting of 3 on 3 play plus goaltenders.  Players can change on the fly or at a stoppage in play. Goalie may be pulled at any time and a substitute player from the bench may be used.  If there is a penalty in the 3 on 3 overtime period, the team with the power play will add a skater and will play 4 on 3, after the penalty has ended it will be 4 on 4 until the next whistle.  If there is a 2-person advantage on the power play, the team with the power play will play 5 on 3, after the penalties have ended it will be 5 on 5 until the next whistle.

- If the game is still tied after the 10 minute 3 on 3 sudden victory overtime, a shootout will occur.  Any penalties incurred at the end of regulation will carry into overtime and the shootout. A three player shootout will decide the winner. The shooters must be identified on the game sheet (S1, S2, and S3), prior to the game.  The home team will decide on the game sheet before the game if they will shoot first or last in the shootout.  Shooters will alternate from both teams starting at the center ice red line. Any player serving a penalty that has not expired by the end of the sudden victory overtime period is not eligible to participate in the shoot-out and must remain in the penalty box.  The coach must designate a shooter(s) to take their place(s) immediately at the end of overtime

- If still tied after a three player shoot out, a sudden victory shootout will commence. Shooters 4 and 5 as listed on the game sheet will go first, after player 5 has shot any eligible player from the bench can shoot, one per team until a winner is determined. A winner is declared when one team scores and the other team does not.


TIE BREAKER

Round Robin:

The following procedure will be used to break ties at the end of the qualifying round.

Two teams tied (use 1 to 7 excluding 3) More than two teams tied (use 3 to 7)

1. In the event two teams are tied, the team with the most wins takes the higher position.

2. If still tied, the winner of the game between those teams will takes the higher position

3. If more than 2 teams are tied; i) the team with the most overall wins will be seeded higher. ii) the team with the most wins versus the other teams in the tiebreak will be seeded higher provided the tied teams all played one another.

4. If still tied, then the team with the best goals for percentage will take the higher position. Goals for Percentage is calculated by dividing team’s total “Goals For” by the SUM of the team’s “Goals for and Goals Against”. TGF / (GF+GA) = %

5. If still tied, the team with the fewest goals allowed will take the higher position.

6. If still tied, the team that scored their first goal of the tournament the quickest 
7. If still tied, the team that received the least minutes in penalties during the round robin would take the higher position
                                      

 

No player or team official will be allowed to participate in the tournament without an approved certificate from the governing body of his/her association.

No team will be allowed to participate in the tournament without written approval (Travel permit) from the governing body of its association.  (i.e.   GTHL, O.M.H.A., etc.).  

 

No player will be allowed to be added to your team roster after the initial registration, and prior to your first game.

Affiliated players will be eligible but must be numbered among the MAXIMUM nineteen (19) declared players on the “Official Roster” sign in sheet declared prior to your first game.

Teams must comply with their local association rules with regard to wearing of all required protection equipment.


FOR ALL SEMIFINAL AND FINAL GAMES, ALL TEAMS MUST BE READY TO GO ON THE ICE TWENTY (20) MINUTES PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED GAME TIME.



SUSPENSIONS:

Any player assessed with a Major Fighting penalty will be suspended for the balance of the tournament.

 

Any participant incurring a suspension during the tournament, as specified in the appropriate rule book, will serve that suspension during the tournament PLUS incur any suspension as dictated by their local governing body. 

DRESSING ROOMS:

Middlesex Centre or Strathroy Caradoc will invoice the team’s respective association for the cost of any damages incurred while on their premises.
