Game 11
This weekend we have two games scheduled against probably the best local league team in North America. The Thamesford Attack are the defending 2017/2018 International Silver Stick champions and the recent 2018/2019 Aylmer regional champion. I like the challenge of playing tough opponents like these guys because nobody really expects us to win and if we do the victory is that much sweeter...

The Golddiggers played a very solid game today. The first period was fairly even trading chances at both ends. It wasn't until late in the first with 2:11 on the clock, Thamesford scored the first goal. We didn't get down and continued playing hard.

Early in the 2nd period at 14:01 Carson Kechego took a nice pass from Blaine Powless and busted in across the blue line to unleash a beauty slap shot which was labelled for the top corner. The game is now tied up and I think our team was a bit surprised by this, maybe that is why we lost our focus for a short time in the 2nd and allowed 4 unanswered goals against in a span of just under 3 minutes. The goals were scored at 12:33, 10:53, 9:53 and 9:40.After this we started playing again and managed to get our defensive game under control, unfortunately we had a tough time mustering enough offense to penetrate the strong Thamesford defense so no more scoring occurred for either team making the final score 5-1 for Thamesford.

The game saw several penalties on both sides. If anyone wants to know the details, we took one 2 minute minor in each period, all 3 for body checking. Thamesford took 3- 2 minute minors in the 2nd and 3 more in the 3rd. The infractions were 2 roughing, 1 head contact, 1 unsportsmen-like conduct, 1 slashing and 1 hooking. The game got a bit chippy in the last half. If you think about it, Thamesford scored their last goal with 9:40 left to play in the 2nd period. They got their first penalty less than a minute later at 8:50. Thamesford did not score a goal in the last half of the game when they were distracted and taking all the penalties. This might be something to think about tonight when we get another shot at beating these guys.
Play hard, play clean, stay out of the box and keep your head in the game, that is how we will beat these guys! GO COUGARS GO!
