Game 9
The Golddiggers played game 9 last night in Forest against the Lambton Shores black squad. It was another short bench with 5 skaters out of the lineup so lots of ice time is guaranteed in this contest. Short shifts would be key in maintaining the speed necessary to keep pace....

Before the start of the game, Tim & Cindy Haywood arrived at the arena with new team jackets for all the kids and bench staff. We need to give a big thanks for the generosity and support of Cindy's employer, Sutherland Elliott Insurance/Thames Financial for purchasing the team jackets and being a great sponsor for our team this season. Please checkout their website on our team sponsor page. The jackets look awesome! Thanks guys!

We played very well in the 1st period and had tons of chances, we just couldn't convert. Ben made some great saves at our end but one high shot got past him late in the first giving the opponent a 1-0 lead.

Coach Mark had things switched up a bit because of the missing players moving Jackson Emerick up to centre in order to make 2 forward lines. Dustin Deleary, Cole Haywood and Lynden Luis were assigned the 3 defense posts. I thought the team played very well although some of the shifts went too long, especially in the 2nd period. We continued having our chances but nothing was going in. Blaine and Jackson made a beautiful passing play coming in on a 2 on 1 but got robbed by an amazing save by the Lambton Shores netminder. No scoring at either end in the 2nd period.

The 3rd period was better and we seemed to be moving the puck more but I think fatigue became a bit more of a factor and the kids just couldn't get the monkey off our back. We had our chances but again, no scoring. Lambton Shores managed to score their 2nd of the game with 10 minutes to play and we tried but we just couldn't answer back. The kids played hard and the effort was there, sometimes it just doesn't go our way. The game ends with a 2-0 loss in a hard fought battle, keep your chin up boys, keep working hard and enjoy these tough contests. They will make you all better hockey players.
