Round 15
LOL...who ever said LL hockey isn't interesting! Welcome to Mount Brydges Tri-Township Arena for a Saturday Night Bruhaha. In the home corner we have The Mount Brydges Goldiggers with an impressive season record of 14-5-4. In the visiting corner we have the Lambeth Lancers LL1 Bruisers with a record of 5-10-3 heading into this battle. The seats are sold out with lots of eager hardcore fans and we are ready to drop the gloves! ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE!!!..

Ok maybe I got a bit carried away with the opening paragraph but here you are reading more and wondering what the heck went on in this game?? I'll do my best to explain this one fairly for all involved, here we go....

The game started with Hoefy in the pipes at our end, Liam and Zac out of action tonight so Coach Ryan ran two centres and 3 sets of wingers and 2 set of defense. The opening period was jam packed full of goals with 5 on our side to 1 for the Lambeth. Our first goal would come just 33 seconds in when Konrad Doxtater blasted the first shot past the goalie assisted by Will Stewart. Only 25 seconds later Lambeth would answer back after a rush into our zone. We were not deterred and managed to score again less than a minute later to regain the lead after Braedan Viana posts a beauty goal in close assisted by Carson Vanderweg and Logan Doxtator.  Our opponent was too busy trying to kill off 5 minor penalties for the rest of the first period. They didn't have much luck though as we would make them pay by burying 3 more goals, next to score was Ethan Bond assisted by Spencer Emerick at the 6:46 mark. Michael Duffy would be next with 3:18 left in the period assisted by Ethan Bond and Sam Stewart. Ethan Bond scored his 2nd of the game with just over a minute left in the opening tilt assisted by AJ Duffy. The first period would close with a 5-1 lead for the Goldiggers and I will say we didn't receive any penalties in the first which I thought shows our boys displayed some great discipline against a rough opponent.

Period 2 got even more interesting with 5 more penalties called, we took two high sticking calls and our opponent took one high stick, one slash and a GRM24 penalty....anyone know what that is? I had to look at the legend on the back of the game sheet to figure it out. A GRM24 is a gross misconduct for an Obscene Gesture. Yes can you believe it? I never heard of that one before and I really don't want to know what the kid did or gestured but the unbelievably poor display of sportsmanship after being kicked out of the game warranted even more calls but the ref let it go. I have never seen anything like it in this age group before. Especially the ugly exchange with one of our fans before he left the ice and the stick smashing and antics. If that was my kid he would be getting a good swift kick in the butt for that type of conduct. Luckily he is out of the game and we can get even by pounding their net with more rubber. We stopped skating briefly in the 2nd period and opened the door for Lambeth as they scored their 2nd of the game with 7:28 on the clock to make it a 5-2 contest.  Ethan Bond then completed his well earned hat trick with 28 seconds left in period 2 assisted by Spencer Whitney and Michael Duffy.

In the final period Lambeth would rack up 3 more penalties, 2 for body contact and a high stick for a total of 11 penalties in the game. I think the refs were trying to keep things even and called a 3 more on us, 2 were tripping and one body contact give us 5 penalties over the 3 periods. This is the roughest contest I have seen at this level, thankfully nobody was seriously injured. As far as the hockey game goes, we took it too them in the 3rd. Being down to 8 skaters left our opponent gassed and out gunned as we dominated the play and kept pressing their net for most of the period. Spencer Whitney would score at the 12:15 mark assisted by Ethan Bond and Michael Duffy. Last but not least, Logan Doxtater would finish up our scoring at the 9:53 mark assisted by none other than Ethan Bond giving Ethan a 6 point night and making the final score of the game 8-2 in our favor.

Thankfully the coaches shook hands and the teams left the ice with no further events to report. I think the refs were quite happy to see this one end as was Jamie Bond who did a great job with a busy night keeping the game sheet up to date in the time keepers box. After the game in the dressing room Coach Ryan told the kids he was very happy with their performance as we out played the Lambeth team by a large margin. Our team is moving the puck very well and not just shooting it away anymore like we did at the start of the year. Our progress is really starting to show. Keep up the hard work everyone!
Just one more piece of good news....we play this Lambeth team again on January 25th :-) Anyone want to buy tickets ahead of time? They might sellout quickly.
