Game 14
The Ilderton Jets came to town today to face off against a battle hardened and very determined squad of Goldiggers. We are feeling good after the great game on Saturday and look to continue the solid play and add a couple more points before the weekend is over and everyone has to go back to school. I know all of you are very excited to get back at the books :-) but we have some business to attend to today so let's get on with it...

The same group was in the dressing room today. Hopefully Liam is feeling better and will return soon. Coach Ryan decided to make a slight adjustment in the lines by moving both Spencers, Spencer Whitney would go back on defense and Spencer Emerick would try his hand at left wing today. Watsy would start and Hoefy will finish it up today.
The first period start was not great for us, the team looked flat and Ilderton was out hustling us pretty bad. It didn't take too long before they opened the scoring after a shot from the point made it through traffic and found the 5 hole for the first goal of the game with 6:37 on the clock. Our team needed to pick it up and get our feet moving in order to turn things around. As the period went on we started playing a bit better and Carson managed to even things up with 4:39 left to play in the first.
The 2nd period saw much more life out of our team and our level of intensity gradually improved all through the 2nd period with lots more chances and more time spent in the offensive zone. We were keeping the Ilderton goalie quite busy and he was making a lot of saves. Ben did a good job in our end as well keeping our opponent to 1 goal against in the first half. We were putting all kind of pressure on them but no scoring would happen in the 2nd period.
As the 3rd period started, Coach Ryan was telling the kids to play hard in front of the net and go after the puck with a fierce determination with two hands firmly on the stick in front of the net. We were missing too many good scoring opportunities because of weak and/or missed shots in front of their net. This would not be the case in the 3rd period as we came on strong and never looked back. Zac Fisher scored his first goal of the year at the 9:16 mark to give us the lead assisted by Nick Sheridan and Will Stewart. Just over a minute later, Carson got his 2nd goal of the game after a sweet passing play between Konrad and Carson. In the neutral zone Carson would pass the puck across to Konrad who carried it wide into the corner then passed it back out to Carson who made no mistake and buried the puck to give us a 2 goal advantage with 7:58 on the clock. Our solid play continued and next to score would be Ethan Bond assisted by Braedan Viana at the 4:15 mark. Our opponent had no wind left in their sails as they had to kill off a couple penalties and the time clock would tick down giving us the 4-1 victory.
Great job everyone, a well earned 2 points this game!! We played a lot of great hockey this weekend, keep up the hard work!!
