EXH Game In Exeter
Todays contest in Exeter was an exhibition game against the South Huron team. We had a couple strong defensemen out of the lineup today. Michael took the day off to rest after the hit to the head during the game yesterday and Spencer Emerick was away. All indications are good and we hope Michael will be back on the ice this week. Matthew aka `Hoefy`had the pipes today.  Coach Ryan made some changes in the lines and tried Spencer Whitney and Nick Sheridan back on the blueline. Thanks for taking the new roles in stride boys, you did just fine! Up front we went with 3 centers and 2 sets of wingers with lots of players trying different assignments. As can be expected with line changes, there is a period of adjustment and I thought the kids adapted quite well......

Just under 2 minutes into the first period on the 2nd shift of the game Ethan Bond buried one assisted by Logan Doxtator and Braedan Viana. Then just 34 seconds later lightning struck again with Ethan's 2nd goal of the shift with the assists going to Logan and Braedan again. South Huron scored their first goal at the mid point of the 1st to narrow the gap. We answered back with 1:18 left in the 1st when Sam Stewart found the mesh with the assists going to Carson and Zac. Great job boys!
We entered the 2nd with a 3-1 lead. South Huron redoubled their efforts and kept pressing. They managed to score at the 7:42 mark to get within 1. We played hard and answered back with 1:42 left in the 2nd when Ethan completed the hat trick after a beautiful shot to the top corner assisted by Liam Peters Albert and Sam Stewart. Congrats to Ethan for your first hat trick of the season, nice job! South Huron wasn't quite done yet and scored with 46 seconds left to play in period 2. The count was now 4-3 for the Golddiggers going into the final 15 minutes.
The 3rd period saw some end to end action with missed opportunities at both ends. One thing we noticed in the offensive zone was our defense on the point were open on many occasions and we didn't see a lot of passes back, this is one area maybe we can work on more. The defense were doing a good job pinching in but didn't get enough opportunities to unload the big shot from the point. South Huron tied up the game at 4 with 9:24 left. Both teams tried hard for the go ahead goal but the game ended at 4-4. Considering all the changes in the lines, a good result.
Look forward to seeing everyone at practice tomorrow.
