Playoff Game 2
The Great White Atoms arrived in Thamesford today for game 2. Our team was complete and everyone was feeling good. Time to get busy!....

The first period started in our usual fashion as the first period was our weakest of the game. Thamesford had plenty of opportunities but Ben was playing well and we managed to keep the puck out of our net. We couldn't convert in Thamesford's zone either so the first period ended without any scoring.
Things opened up a bit in the 2nd with both teams looking to get on the board. Cole Abbey was first to score at the 7:26 mark with the assists going to Jackson and Spencer Emerick. Only 20 seconds later it was Jackson's turn to score after taking a beautiful pass from Colton Cordeiro. The Thamesford squad was working hard trying to narrow the gap but our defense where standing tall and Ben was shutting the door every time they had a shot on our net. With 2:32 left in the 2nd period Cole Abbey found some room and scored on the break-away to expand our lead to 3 goals going into the 3rd period.
The team was playing much better than in the first and we had the momentum on our side. We needed to skate hard in the 3rd and prevent Thamesford squad from gaining any sort of adrenaline boost. The kids did just that and kept pressing in the offensive zone. I like the fact we didn't change our game plan and try to sit on the lead. In my opinion, the best defense is a good offense. Sure enough, this offensive pressing paid off just 40 seconds into the 3rd when Cobyn Dias blasted home a loose puck in the slot after a nice pass by Cole Abbey. About a minute and a half later it was David Elijah's turn to pick up a pass from Spencer Emerick in the slot and bury our 5th and final goal of the game. Congrats to Spencer for taking the 5 bucks for two nice assists today! Great job, keep up the hard work.
Thamesford tried hard but they couldn't get the puck in the net so I think Ben deserves the props (and 5 bucks) for a well earned shutout today. Solid goaltending is essential for success in the playoffs and it gives the team a needed lift at times. The whole team played well today and deserves the victory. Let's rest up and prepare for what is sure to be a tough battle in Komoka on Sunday night.
GREAT JOB EVERYONE! GO COUGARS GO!!
