Midget B Girls Silverstick FINALIST!
The Mount Brydges Midget Girls get robbed of the Gold Medal at the International Silverstick!

The Mount Brydges Midget Girls were undefeated throughout the preliminary rounds finishing first in their pool after defeating Wyoming USA 4-0, Blyth 2-0, Sarnia 2-0 and tying Walkerton 0-0.

This meant that they would now face the Ilderton Jets (their rivalry) in the semis. The girls came out with their guns blazing and defeated them 2-1. It all began when Rebecca Werden blew one by the Ilderton goalie on our first power play. This onetime was the game changer. The next goal was scored by Mikenna Vanderheyden which secured our victory. This meant that our girls would now be playing in the finals later that afternoon against South Huron.

What an exciting game this was. Our girls out shot, out played and dominated the entire game. After 4 periods of Overtime Brooklyn Hanson scored a beautiful goal with 1 second left on the clock. The linesmen called it in and the parents, coaches and girls started celebrating their victory! However, the ref called it off as he claimed it did not cross the line before the buzzer went off. The coaches tried to fight the call as the linesmen was right behind the net and had called it a goal, but the ref would not budge and overruled his call. Despite this tragedy the girls went out with their heads held high and played two more overtimes (for a total of 6 OT periods), when South Huron dribbled one by our goal keeper.

All of the girls played their hearts out all tournament only giving up 2 goals, which speaks volumes. Jules Johnson, our goalie, was a ROCK every time she stepped foot on the ice. The defence Jenny Zupanic, Sophie Friends, Heather Nicol and Aly Vanrooyen were unstoppable and a force to be reckoned with. Overall it was  a GREAT team effort and we could not be any prouder of each one of these girls. This Tournament will make us stronger as we gear up to qualify for Provincials. Stayed tuned.... We'll keep you posted.
