Game January 23
It was a beauty day for the Atom Red freight train to make the trip to Exeter. The team had some time to rest after the Silver Stick and everyone was itching to get back on the ice and resume our regular season action. It was a great game and both teams played well. Nothing further to report.

I was feeling a bit rough with a cold so I decided to stay off the bench today and watch the game from the stands with the parents. The perspective is a bit different in the stands when your not talking to the players and dealing with water bottles, equipment problems, etc. I found it kinda funny how some parents really get into the game, especially goalie moms! I think I got kicked by the goalie mom beside me everytime someone shot the puck on our net. The grunts, groans and yelling was amusing to say the least...the term "crazy hockey parent" really isn't all that bad when you think about it. Getting into the game is great and a big part of the fun as long as things are kept under control which was definitely the case at this game.
Our team came out playing well, we were keeping the majority of the play in the offensive zone when Evan Thomas opened the scoring about 3 minutes in, assisted by Aiden Sinclair. South Huron answered back to tie it about a minute later after a squirmish in front of our net and a nice backhand shot got past Ben. Brayden Martin was next to score with 3 minutes left in the first, the assist went to Brett Fair. Evan Thomas was here to play and scored his 2nd of the game with 1:12 left on the clock in the 1st period with the assist going to Carson Cordeiro.
South Huron opened the scoring early in the 2nd period with a nice shot that beat Ben on the blocker side to make the score 3-2. We answered back with 3 more goals in the 2nd period after witnessing some of the best passing we have seen all season. With 3:47 on the clock Brett Fair scored, assisted by Brayden Martin and Tanner Jarrett. Only 12 seconds later, Evan Thomas completes his hat trick with the assists going to Aiden Sinclair and Will Stewart. Our 6th and final goal was scored by Tanner Jarrett after an awesome pass by Brett Fair.
The 3rd period saw no scoring and the game ended with a 6-2 victory for the Red squad! The coaches thought we played a good game. The speed of the game seemed a bit slow but maybe that is because we are comparing it with Silver Stick tournament action. The favorite parts of the game for me was the passing plays and a few defensemen rushing the puck when open ice presented itself. We saw Blake Scatcherd go end to end and create a great scoring opportunity. Denny did the same on several occasions. Tess Alcock was not letting anyone past her and I love the old fist pump we see from her maybe once a game when she is happy with her performance. Spencer Emerick and Will Stewart played solid games as usual helping at both ends of the ice.
Great job team, keep up the hard work and great team play! Two more games before playoffs start...
