Passion for Passing
I have had many people talk to me about Atom Blue's season this year and after playing our last regular season game on Saturday, I thought about our season for a while.

Thing is, people are very kind and very sympathetic when we have a season like this.  Most of the comments are built around our record and how it must be a long season.

But the opposite is true.  Having a season like this has forced me to be creative and find ways for the kids to get as much out of a season like this as they can.  Lucky for me I have the best group of kids I could ever ask for.....they want to have fun, they want to learn, and they have the skills to do what I ask.  And the parents, well I could never ask for a more supportive bunch.

Our focus now has turned to team play and more specifically......passing.  And holy crap are they passing.  The first game I had Rob track passes we had 23.  Not very impressive at all.  We kept trying to get the number up but the kids just couldn't seem to grasp the concept.  So, time to think of something.  We went into Thedford on Thursday night and I made them a deal.  If they get 40 passes that game I will wear our Mexican Sombrero on the bench for the next game.  For some reason they really liked that idea and boy did they come through......56 passes.  Incredible.  Then on Saturday, they completed 65 passes against one of the best teams in the league.  They were passing back to the D, up to their linemates, they were making D to D passes, drop passes, and even touch passes.  It was beautiful to watch and got everybody stoked about hockey again.  And that's what it's all about, being pumped about something you enjoy doing.  And funny enough, the score was never ever mentioned in the dressing room by anyone.  They just wanted to talk about the passing.  Cool, eh. Now I can't wait to see if we can carry it forward in the playoffs.

Cheers, Jamie.
