John Henry Silver Medal Winners!
This was an action packed week for the Novice Black kids.  The team got a few days away from the arena to celebrate Christmas with family and friends.  After all the turkey was eaten, the presents were opened and the equipment was aired out … it was back to hockey.

The Black team showed up on Friday pumped up and ready to play.  The kids, parents, grandparents and siblings were all excited to be back at the arena.  The team played hard and fast against the Strathroy White team.  The kids kept the Strathroy goalie busy the whole game.  The horns, cowbells and cheering hockey moms echoed through the arena, as the team ended the game with a 7-4 victory.

Saturdays schedule had the team up against the Sarnia Sabres.  Again, the Black Team played an awesome defensive and offensive game.  This group of kids is awesome.  They work together and have fun both on and off the ice.  After a 4-0 win over Sarnia, it was back to the dressing room for cookies!  It was so great to see the kids talking, laughing and eating yummy Babenko cookies! Thanks so much Owen for bringing in treat for the team.

Sunday afternoon had the kids up against a determined Ilderton White team.  This is the team we beat in an exhibition game with only 7 Novice Black skaters.  Ilderton White and Novice Black both had 2 wins, so the kids on both teams knew this game was an important one.  Ilderton scored the first goal but Black came back and put 2 more in the net.  In the last few minutes of the game, Ilderton scored.  The buzzer sounded and the third period ended in a tie game.  After a quick pep talk from the coaches, the game moved into sudden death 3 on 3 over time.  Every coach, parent and grandparent had a knot in there stomachs at this point.  James popped the puck out of the corner and Luke picked it up, fired up the ice to score the winning goal.  It was amazing to see our kids pour out onto the ice to celebrate the 3-2 victory.

The Novice Black team was moving onto the Championship game and the entire team contributed to this success.  Will S was a powerhouse on defence while his brother Sam, always played a hard fought offensive game.  The Black team could be the pink team with all the girl power we have.  Ava P was stellar between the pipes.  Jill I was mighty and always brought her A game.  Samara G showed the boy’s who was boss when digging for the puck in the corners.  Taylor was both serious on and off the ice.  Ashton, as always is our wild, crazy and constantly smiling defenseman.  Don’t be fooled by Braeden J size.  He is small but tough on both forward and D.  Owen B showed up to every game hungry for goals and got them.  Speed and determination is what Luke D brought to the games.  James H played hard and gave 100% the entire tournament.  Liam G is the strong, silent type that came out to the games ready to skate hard and fast.

Monday’s game came early.  The kids were super pumped up and hungry for a win.  We were up against the Ilderton Red team in the Gold/Silver game.  Each player on our team brought heart and determination to this game.  Novice Black found themselves in OT for the second time in the tournament.  The Gold/Silver game is a hard one to lose.  The kids lost the game but WON silver at the John Henry Tournament.   The coaches and parents are very proud of the team’s performance the last 4 days.  All the kids should be wearing there silver medals with pride today!! As always, see the photo gallery for all the action and smiles.
