North Middlesex Tournament
What a way to wrap up a very successful season this weekend. A fun hockey tournament combined with a great time in between games at the Scatcherd's beautiful Oakwood Inn Resort in Grand Bend.......

Our first game of the weekend was at 5pm Friday against the Woolwich Wildcats. In the first minute of the game Woolwich scored twice and I thought we were in for a rough one. It was the typical slow start out of the gate we have seen so many times this year. As the period went on our play improved and we actually dominated with most of the play in their end. We just couldn't get the puck in the net. Early in the 2nd period Caden finally scored to narrow the gap. We kept outplaying them but their goalie was standing on this head. I would guess the shots on goal in this contest to be about 40-10 in our favor but infortunately the game ended with a 2-1 loss.
Our Heart & Hustle award went to Jorja Doxtator for playing a great game up on forward.
Game 2 was Saturday at 1pm against a tough Lucan Irish Green team. We knew this game was not going to be easy based on our previous experiences against this team. We got off to our usual slow start and Lucan scored in the first minute. Our play improved and we saw end to end action in a fun contest. Deacon scored our first goal near the end of the 2nd period making the score 2-1 going into the 3rd. We played hard through the 3rd period and saw 2 more goals scored by each team. Noah and Caden both capitalized but the Lucan team matched us and managed to hang on to their 1 goal lead. The game ended in a 4-3 loss. Our Heart & Hustle award was given to Zachary Jackson for really working hard and playing very well on his wing. Great job Zachary!
Game 3 is at 8pm Saturday against the very strong Strathroy Black team. We knew we were pretty much out of contention but we wanted to give them a good run and end our season on a high note. We tweaked the lines a bit and decided to keep to forward lines together and go with 5 defense. Zachary went back to defense and Ben got his wish to play forward in this final game. The plan worked out just fine but we started off with our usual slow start and Strathroy scored in the first minute and again late in the first making the score 2-0 at the end of 1. Both teams played hard with no scoring in the 2nd. We saw some ugly stick work and Strathroy drew some penalties which we failed to capitalize on and Strathroy scored again early in the 3rd. We were getting mad due to the rough play and this seemed to cause our kids to dig in a little and try a little harder to get back in the game. Noah opened our scoring with 7 minutes left. Caden was next about a minute later and then Deacon scored the equalizer only 20 seconds after Caden with the assist going to Owen Deyell. We really wanted to steal the win but the game ended in a tie. Great come back from behind kids....we didn't give up and it paid off. This was the most satisfying tie all season! Our Heart & Hustle award went to Owen Deyell for his solid play on defense. Great tournament kids...it has been a great season and I enjoyed it very much. I have one more article to write so stay tuned.
