Play Off Game 3
I am still suffering a little shell shock after this game. 29 seconds after the opening face off Strathroy charged into our end and scored their first goal. We definitely started this game flat-footed and we seemed to be getting out hustled at every turn.....

With 4:38 left in the first period Casey managed to score after Ben passed it in from the point to Caden who then passed it over to Casey who put it in the mesh. This goal gave the kids a momentary lift until Strathroy scored 40 seconds into the 2 period. Two minutes and 40 seconds later Strathroy found our mesh again making the score 3-1. We were in trouble and the kids seemed off today. Strathroy was out hustling us and winning most of the battles. Eric played very well in our net and made some key saves to help keep us in it. The second period ended without any more scoring.
The third period started out uneventful, we had a couple power plays but we didn't do anything with those opportunities. I think the mistake here was mine, I should have had a power play line on the ice but opted to go with our standard 3 line rotation. Looking back I think we were lucky they didn't score short handed since Strathroy had their 4 best players on the ice to kill the penalties. Next game we will be ready with power play and penalty kill lines to help combat their 4 best players on the ice at once.
With 2:56 left to play, Casey Bridgewater scored to narrow the gap and put us within one. We decided to leave them on a little longer to see if lightning would strike twice. We were getting ready to pull Eric and go with another attacker when BANG!!! Lightning struck again when Casey scored the tying goal with 2:00 to go. After this we managed to keep the play in their end preventing them from pulling their goalie and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Congratulations to our Heart & Hustle award winner Blake Scatcherd for solid play on defense. Honorable mention goes to Casey and Caden for playing a fantastic offensive game.
In closing I must say we were very lucky to bring home a point today. We need to get all 3 lines going and play a little tighter defensively. We got caught too many times in this game, lets get ready for game 4 next weekend. Practice is scheduled for Thursday night. See you there.
