Congratulations to all the players for an exciting start to the 2012 - 2013 Hockey Season !!!
Game #1 was a very competetive match up against PeeWee Blue. A game much closer than the 5 - 2 Victory would lead you to believe !! We didnt pull away until later in the game...and it was a very balanced scoring attack.
From a coaching perspective our teams commitment to defense was very evident in Game 1....from not just the the effort and intelligent play of our Defenseman....but also to the hustle and selfless team play of our Forwards in playing a strong 2-Way game!! This will be our mantra all season !!!
A complete player comittment to protecting our end !!!
In Game #2.....Our 6-0 success over Strathroy showed a different type of Defensive Hockey...one that preaches " the best Defense is a Strong Offense" !!!With the vast majority of play in the Rockets end the entire game, plus capitolizing on so many scoring chances....Cougar Gold celebrated their efforts along with Goalie Jacob Campbell with our teams first Shut Out of the Season.
Adam Boyd captured our teams first Assists "HatTrick" of the season doing such a fine job setting up his teammates!!! Which reminds me of how impressive our team passing and setups have been....so many great throws to teammates in front of the opponents net!! Awesome work forwards!!!!!
Our team also showed their stamina in closing the game #2 with 3.. 3rd period goals..even though we were outmanned 14 skaters to 10 the entire game...not to mention being penalized 6 times to only 1 for the Rockets. I believe Becca Holt is preparing a short pre game locker room presentation for tomorrows game...entitled " how i plan to do my best and not take 4 penalites in one game again this season"...LOL... Someone please remind me to bring the power point projector ;)
The team is performing very well and our players are having a blast playing the game they love...its a special combination...and one us coaches that get to experience it with a front row seat are blessed to have!!! Thank you !!
We will take our early momemtum into Point Edward tomorrow night for what is sure to be a spirited match up against the Hawks. We will continue to promote an aggressive but fair and safe style of play.
