Today was the start of the silver stick tournament held in Exeter.  We started off the tournament with a game against league rivals Strathroy Rockets. With Brett Holt starting in net for the cougars and the kids pumped for their first game they looked ready to fly!

The two teams battled back and forth in the 1st period and it would end scoreless.  The 2nd period led to Strathroy jumping out to a 1-0 lead.  While we had several opportunities to score, the boys just couldn't seem to bury the puck.  Strathroy would go onto a 2-0 lead part way through the 3rd.  With a last ditch effort to get something going in the final 2 minutes we pulled our goalie for the extra attacker.    That would end with Strathroy gaining possession of the puck and netting an empty netter to win the game 3-0.
Since we were there for the day, we headed out after the hard loss for a little team and parent bonding.  I think the festivities were enjoyed by all!
Game 2 of the tournament would be against Petrolia.  Trying to ignite a fire under the kids, the coach called for a parent and team pep talk just minutes before game time.  If the kids weren't pumped prior to that they sure were when the parents were done cheering  them on.  With Brett Holt taking the spot between the pipes for game 2 the cougars came out strong.  As the 2 teams battled it out the 1st 2 periods would end scoreless.  The cougars made a goaltender change and sent in Jarrod Davidson for the 3rd.  In the first few minutes of the 3rd and a scramble of players around the petrolia net minder, the cougars were finally on the board with a goal from Jake Sibley.  That lead was short lived however as Petrolia responded on the next shift with a goal.   With the game again tied and a tired cougars team, Petrolia would score again to take the lead.  Once again, in an effort to tie it back up the cougars would pull their goalie for the extra attacker.  Petrolia was able to steal the puck and once again the cougars were haunted by an empty net goal.  The game would end in a 3-1 loss.
Tomorrow we head back in Exeter to take on St. Mary's.
Get a good night sleep boys!
GO COUGARS!!!!!!
