And We Begin
The Awesome Novice Whites began their quest for the cup this weekend and what an exciting weekend it turned out to be.

We strolled into Pt. Edward for our first game on Saturday and came out flying with a goal 12 seconds in by Nathan March.  The hard work continued but some very unlucky bounces turned the tables on us and Pt. Edward was able to build up a commanding 4-2 lead late into the 3rd period.  It wasn't looking good but we were able to pot one with about 3:30 remaining in the game.  We were pressing hard but just couldn't sneak one by the stingy Pt. Edward netminder.  With exactly 1 minute remaining, we were able to pull the goalie and put Cooper Alcock out as our sixth attacker.  We immediately had to hold our breath as the opposition promptly marched the puck out of their end quickly headed for our zone.....you know the one with the empty net?  But we stole the puck and Cooper flew down the ice and with a bit of battling, was able to pop the puck in the net to tie it up.  It was a great effort in a tough barn and we were very happy to come out of there with a point.  There were 12 players who could have received the player of the game today, but our steady hand on the point today was Katie Lunnie. We could always depend on her to be in the right spot at the right time.  Congrats Katie.

The very next day, we hit the ice again against the mighty Point Edward squad, but this time on our turf in Mt. Brydges.  The stands were surprisingly packed and the fans were loud and boistrous.  This time the Blackhawks scored early and then again in the second period.  We were fighting hard but the Pt. Edward goaltending was amazing.  One save was highlighted by a lightening quick glove that robbed us of our first goal.  However, we were able to finally get one in the second period to get close at 2-1.  To keep us in the game, our goalie Cameron Jones was unbelievable and made many remarkable saves.  The Blackhawks held the 2-1 lead until Gavin McGahey-Smith scored on a long distance marker with 3:56 remaining in the game.  That seemed to give us another jump as birthday boy Reece Whiteye scored 21 seconds later to give us the lead.  The place went nuts.  Then the Cooper Alcock express took over as he scored two more goals to complete his hat trick.  It was a fantastic game by all of our players and the way they pulled together and kept their cool, even though we were down, was a true testament to all of our hard work so far this season.  Our player of the game was Coop who was able to step it up a notch to lead us to our first victory of the playoffs.  Congrats Cooper.

We play our next game on Saturday and I can't wait.  Seeing the kids come together like this and play sooo hard is awesome for all to see.  Keep er going Novice White.
