Silverstick Finalists!!
The Mt.Brydges Atom AE Cougars travelled to Exeter to the Regional Silverstick Tournament.

The boys had a great weekend in Exeter, only to come up short in the finals against a very good St.Marys team.
The team started the tournament on Friday. Yes another day off school and work for some. The dress code for the day was PJ's. And team, coachs and some parents did not let us down. The boys first faced Goderich winning 12-2 and then faced Tavistock winning 9-0.
On Saturday the dress code was favourite team jersey. All the team, coaches and parents participated. Great team spirit. On Saturday, the boys faced their league rivals Lambeth and came out flying to win 6-0. With winning all 3 of our round robin games and accumulating 32 out of a possible 33 points. We finished 1st out of pool A and B and were given a bye to the semi's on Sunday.
On Sunday it was shirt and ties. The Cougars were to face another league rival Ilderton. After disrespecting us in the warmup. I let my kids know of my disproval and they went out and made their point very, very clear. You don't do that to us and think you are going to get away with it. The boys netted 4 goals in the first 4mins of the game and never took their foot off the gas. Ilderton tried many times to score only to have our goalie Cal say "not today." The final score was 8-0 putting us into the finals against St.Marys.
We came out the first shift and scored quickly only to have St.Marys answer back with 2 quick goals. They got a 3rd goal to make it 3-1 but the Cougars scored to make it 3-2 late in the second. With a few seconds to go in the 2nd period St.Marys netted another one to make it 4-2 after 2 periods. With a pep talk and clementines during the flood, the Cougars were ready to go in the 3rd period. But St.Mary was even more ready. They scored a quick one right from the drop of the puck which took the wind out of our sails. They scored another one in the middle of the 3rd and we tallied one more. With seconds ticking down. Our fate was sealed. We lost 6-3 in the final.
With our first lose of the season. We can all breath again. Unfortunitely, it had to come at Silverstick.
The boys showed composure, pride and sportsmanship. Even with losing, the kids all commented that St.Marys played a great game and that they would be ready for the rematch in league play.

Boys, I could not be more proud of you after this weekend. You played your hearts out.

Great Job!!

And thanks to all the parents for their support throughout the season and tournament.
